Dial-a-Cab Call Taker and shooting champion Donna Merry, is now half way to
becoming the first-ever female skeet shooter to make the England Senior
team! Donna, a former England Ladies team captain, finished joint-8th after
the first of a two-legged shoot-off to decide the "10 man" England
senior team. Both selection legs are shot over two days each, with the
second and final shoot being held later this month. The top ten scorers over
the two shoots will represent the England senior team. Donna started slowly in the first leg and told Call Sign: "The weather was absolutely atrocious. Had the wind been any stronger, I doubt that the shoot would have gone ahead. After the first round, I was way down in 33rd position, but then I scored the first - and as it turned out - only perfect 100 of the whole weekend and everything after that just clicked." Donna estimates that she will need to score at least 198 out of 200 at the July weekend selection finale. "It won't be easy," DaC's blonde bombshell |

Will they soon be on the same teem. said, "but making the senior team - which until now has been solely in the possession of men - is something that I desperately want to achieve. I was proud to be the England Ladies captain, but the Senior squad is something else..." As a silver and double bronze winner at the 2001 National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) World Championships in San Antonio, Texas in addition to being a former champion of all four home countries and British Champion, Donna has achieved much in her chosen sport, but representing her country for the senior England team |
is the one thing that has eluded her. We will be reporting on how Donna's Dream went in the next issue. In the meantime, Donna warmed up for the forthcoming British Championships and August's DaC European Open at Northampton, with a third place bronze medal in the English Open, which was also held at Northampton. She finished behind Scottish Champion Helena Kaye and English rival Lizzie Adams. Despite not shooting at her best, Donna was pleased that on an off-day she could still come in third. Donna will be representing DaC along with John Wells (K68) and Bob Raymen (D98J) at the Dial-a-Cab European Open Skeet Shooting Championships on Sunday August 10 at the Northampton shooting ground. All DaC drivers and staff and their families will be more than welcome. Admission is free and there is a licensed bar on-site... |
