It may have been 5pm on a wintry Friday evening in
December, but the Dial-a-Cab legend for hospitability goes before it and led
to a Spanish delegation from Madrid's largest radio taxi organisation,
Sociedad Cooperativa de Auto de Madrid Y Su Provincia, visiting Brunswick
House to see how DaC operates. Fortunately for this magazine, their
President, José Movilla Tories told us via a DaC interpreter that the
company were better known as SCAT...! |

The group watched the call takers doing their job and operating their terminals, followed by a detailed explanation of what happens in the dispatcher's office where Joe Brazil was watching the fleet. They fired a constant stream of questions at Angela, who then passed them onto Brian... The visitors then went down to the IT floor and looked on in envy as they were shown our Servers kept in the blue-tinted futuristic looking room and by which Dial-a-Cab functions. Among them are the Sun Server, which covers the Call Centre's V6 operation and the SQL for the DP department among others. Even Call Sign's roving reporter was impressed as he had never seen it properly before! |
Before departing, they were shown the DaC Training Room and also shown how it is possible to order a cab via your laptop computer if you have account facilities with our company. Señor Morvilla thanked Brian Rice through Angela and he presented them both with Spanish lottery tickets, which make our top prize look like peanuts! Before leaving, the SCAT President surprised Call Sign by telling us that his company had a total of 13,103 drivers out of 15,629 taxi drivers in Madrid - an incredibly high proportion. They then returned to the Cumberland Hotel with smiles on their faces. They had seen probably the most advanced radio taxi organisation in Europe and been shown around by its Chairman...! |
