A GOLD TERMINAL FOR A GOLDEN
ANNIVERSARY!

Microbus MD John Evans presents Brian Rice with the
gold terminalAt a recent ceremony held at Dial-a-Cab's Brunswick
House headquarters, Microbus Managing Director John Evans presented
DaC Chairman Brian Rice with a special 22 carat gold plated mobile
terminal which had a dual significance. It completed DaC's order with
Microbus for 2000 mobile taxi terminals which have full PC capability,
are able to interface with the meter, to integrate a credit card
swiping unit with printer and to have touch-screen control. It was
also to help celebrate our momentous 50th anniversary.
Speaking to Call Sign, Brian remembered the look on
terminal manufacturers faces when he insisted that any in-cab terminal
had to be touch screen operated...
"They all said it wasn't possible," he
told us, "I didn't have a clue as to how it could be done, but
I knew that I wanted it...!"
He went on to add: "Microbus have delivered a
unique solution to our requirements and our drivers find the terminals
extremely valuable with its access of information. We are also
grateful to Microbus's for their kind thought in presenting us with
the gold terminal."
The gold terminal sits proudly in the Chairman's
office.

While Editor Alan Fisher was absent
awaiting the birth of his third grandchild, Call Sign asked former Credit
Union President Terry Lynn to report on the 2003 CU AGM...
DAC CREDIT UNION AGM 2003
|
It seems strange to be writing a report on this AGM for Call Sign while
sitting on the members' side of the fence and not from the platform, having
stepped down from the Board some 18 months ago. But looking at the accounts
and listening to the reports, all seems to be going well. It will be of no
surprise to learn that the same members turn up every year, regardless of
whether Arsenal are on the box - which is generally the case. Maybe current
President, Terry Dodd (W15), should check the fixtures list before booking
the AGM!
Following tea and sandwiches, the President opened the meeting
by introducing his Board and welcoming guests, Richard Oswald from auditors
Appleby & Wood and Barry Epstein, Director/Treasurer of the Association
of British Credit Unions (ABCUL).
President's Report
This was the first full year of trading under the new rules as
set out by the Financial Services Authority. The President, Terry Dodd, had
hoped for a smooth ride but as with running any business, there is at least
one event in the year that overshadows everything else. This year was to be
no exception - the office manager decided to go AWOL! However, much to
Terry's relief, he was able to report that with everybody pulling together,
they had got through this 'sticky' patch and that all was now running
well. But it meant everybody from Board / Committee members, software
suppliers and new office manager to the Auditors giving that little extra,
for which he was very grateful. This was later confirmed
|
in the Auditor's Report.
Dividend
Following the Treasurer's and Auditor's report, a dividend on
members' shares (savings) of 3% was accepted by the members. It was up from
2.5% last year.
Loans / Supervisory Committee Report
Pat O'Leary (S73) reported a total amount on loans of £841,000 with the
number of loans granted as 321. The average loan requested was £2600 with an
average payment period of 2 years.
Doug Fisher (A59) from the Supervisory Committee echoed the
President's thoughts by saying that all was well.
And finally...
Following the elections, it's nice to see one or two new faces on board and
on behalf of the membership, I wish them all well. Following some general
discussions under AOB, the President closed the meeting. My thanks to the
President and all concerned for all the hard work put in to run the Credit
Union on our behalf.
If you take a quick look back at the amount out on loan, you will
see that there are quite a number of satisfied customers. If you still have not
joined the DaC Credit Union, maybe now is the time? You may not need a loan,
but are you satisfied with the interest you receive on your savings account at
the bank? The credit union have paid 3% on savings for the above-mentioned
year, coupled with free life insurance. This really is a good deal for
small/moderate savings with easy access. So why not give the office a ring and
join today.
