Since early 1999, Call Sign has been linked with DaC drivers who have
suddenly found themselves diagnosed as Diabetic and who have had their
licence withdrawn with virtually no hope of appeal. Over a prolonged period, we published views from solicitors, the PCO and drivers as we tried to publicise what we felt was an injustice to these people who, with the correct medical treatment, were perfectly safe to drive their cabs. Nowadays, taxi drivers with Diabetes have a good chance of carrying on earning their living provided that their medical prognosis is good and that they can show the Diabetes is under control. However, that is not to detract from the fact that Diabetes is still a dangerous condition, but one that as the years go by, is becoming easier to treat and hopefully one day, cure. The punchline, as always, involves money. Funding for |
