Stan Carter's Snapshot Security Camera Comes
in Useful

Stan Carter
Dial-a-Cab driver Stan Carter (M95) was recently fitted
with a Raywood 'Snapshot' in-cab security camera courtesy of Raywood
(Europe) who read of Stan's terrible ordeal at the hands of five young thugs
in Call Sign. Seventy year-old Stan ended up in hospital following the
horrendous attack.
Stan now has the Snapshot camera with infrared capability that
digitally records and securely stores images of the rear carriage and
driver's cabin at specific times during a hiring. He also has the option to
activate the cameras at will and store the images securely in the control
box. Only authorised personnel such as the police or PCO can download these
photos. The cameras normally respond to the fare meter being operational or
the doors being opened.
Now Stan tells Call Sign that he rather foolishly allowed
himself to be guided into a dead-end estate at the back of the Old Kent Road
by a group of youngsters who looked rather dangerous.
"I didn't really notice until they were in the
cab," Stan told Call Sign, "but I sensed that all wasn't well. As
we got to the end of the estate, I spotted the group whispering and feared
the worst. As soon as they got out I was going to get my foot down and
forget the fare!"
Stan went on: "Suddenly I saw one of the kids pointing to
the notice about the Raywood Snapshot camera and their attitude suddenly
changed. They obviously assumed that they had been photographed (which
indeed they had been) and that they would be caught if they tried anything.
They got out quietly and paid me!
I am very grateful to Raywood and would urge anyone who doesn't
feel safe in their cab to think about having a Snapshot fitted. After all, a
life is worth much more than the cost of a camera..."

DaC Dispatcher
Ivor Belkin Hits 70

A surprised Ivor Belkin receives his
Call Sign Birthday cake presented by Val Gomez
Inset: Happy Ivor shows his watch
On July 27, Saturday daytime dispatcher Ivor Belkin
celebrated his 70th birthday and to mark the occasion, members of the
Dial-a-Cab Call Centre staff presented him with a beautifully engraved gold
pocket-watch and chain.
"For someone who normally doesn't stop talking, I was
really choked up," he told Call Sign, "I was almost crying
with joy! I just didn't realise that people here felt so warmly towards me.
It's a very nice feeling and a lovely gesture."
Unbeknown to Ivor, Call Sign had arranged the little soiree for
Ivor when he came in to work his usual 8 to 4 Saturday slot. We made sure
via wife Estelle that he wasn't considering having his birthday off and then
bought him a birthday cake to go with the beautiful gift from the staff.
"I wondered why Estelle was so keen for me to shave
properly that morning," said a laughing Ivor.
The daytime host of the 'Ivor and Lou (Gitlin) Roadshow'
explained that it was his policy to help the drivers whenever he could and
they in turn made real efforts to help cover the work.
"This filters across to the Call Centre staff as well,
so things run as smoothly as possible," he told us.
Ivor's son had organised a holiday in Cornwall for him and wife
Estelle and Ivor had casually mentioned to her that it would be nice if the
family could join them. She quietly agreed...
It was only when the cab dropped them off at Eurostar and they
were both greeted by the entire Belkin family, that Ivor realised that the
West Country was not the intended destination... it was DisneyLand Paris
which played host to all nine members of the Belkin entourage for almost a
week, giving our Ivor time enough to try most of the rides at least twice -
"one for each 35 years!"
"Without doubt," said Ivor, "this has
been the best birthday I've ever had. The surprise holiday, this magnificent
timepiece and a birthday cake from Call Sign Magazine, who could ask for
more!"
Happy birthday Ivor from all at DaC.
