CALL SIGN MAG INTERNET
|
||
With a flick here and a twist there, Call Sign's Internet wizard Vince
Chin, has brought to fruition this Editor's wish for the magazine to have
its own Internet library. In addition to the library, there is also a search
engine to enable anyone to find any specific item they may be looking for
that much quicker. There are two addresses and either one takes you to directly to the Call Sign library: http://www.dac-callsign.co.uk http://www.dac-callsign.com Once connected to the opening page, you will find an intro from the Editor together with a choice of five buttons going down the left hand side. The first four buttons (see graphic) represent the four years since I've been Editor, ie 2001, 2000, 1999 and 1998. Clicking onto any one of the four years will then give you a selection of all the covers (and dates) from the Call Signs published in that particular year. You can then click onto any of the covers displayed and that mag will open up giving you a choice of any page from that issue. Latest issues will automatically be added to the library. Should you want to search for a specific item but don't know which issue (or even which year) it appeared in (ie a letter you wrote), click on the fifth button 'Searching Call Sign' - which is shown as an underlined text line A second page will open and you will see a small box headed 'Search Call Sign Online' (see graphic). Put in the word or words you wish to search (ie your name) and the engine will track down any references and give you a selection of pages from throughout the four years that contain the word or words you have entered. |
As an example, as of Wednesday 5 September, were you to type in the
following words, you would have got these responses:
Allen (116 refs) ... Togwell (113) ... Allen Togwell (119) ... Sales (83) ... Sales and Marketing (38). Each reference appearing will then give the issue and date and can be
clicked to open up that particular page. The searched pages appear in
groups of 20. Should you have more than 20 pages to search, at the end of
the 20th displayed page you will find some arrows. Clicking the single one
(to the right) gives you the next 20 choices. Clicking the furthest right
of several arrows takes you to the end of the selections. The left arrows
work in reverse (ie back to the beginning). Once again, my sincere thanks go to Vince Chin who has achieved a minor miracle for me... Alan Fisher |
Dial-a-Cab / Mann & Overton LinkThe link between Dial-a-Cab and main LTI agent M&O, is now
going very well with a steady stream of DaC drivers phoning the
Service Department in Holloway Road to order a replacement cab fitted
with the latest DaC touch-screen terminal while their own cab is being
serviced or in overhaul. |
