Brian Rice Meets Ken's Womens Champion | ||

Chairman Brian Rice was invited to Mayor Livingstone's GLA
headquarters to meet with Anni Marjoram, head of the Women's Transport
Advisory Committee, for an update on the current work she is carrying
out on women's issues and on transport in London. Her department is currently involved in a major consultation on women's priorities for transport in London and it is hoped that the results will be presented to the to the TfL Board later this month (May). In terms of the taxi trade, Ms Marjoram told Brian that she was particularly interested in the possibility of integrating taxi services with the tube by developing taxi ranks at tube stations. |
Brian, in return, explained the policy positions of
the London Taxi Board as they relate to women in London. He also spoke
on the work Dial-a-Cab do with regards to women travelling alone in
taxis and explained how the Dial-a-Cab Female Taxicard operated. |

DaC Chairman agreed immediately. The subject of extra charges for night drivers was also brought up and this was to be looked at again by the Mayor's office. Speaking to Call Sign after the meeting, Brian told Call Sign: "The meeting was extremely productive and it was nice to have the opportunity to put the licensed trades views to Anni Marjoram. It was very satisfying to see how much common ground there was between us. It is so imperative that future legislation be considered very carefully to protect the travelling public and to ensure that the licensed trade competes with the private hire industry on a level playing field." |
