Peter Bond (L67)
In what was almost certainly the most successful incentive
scheme that Dial-a-Cab have ever run, three lucky drivers each walked away
(or should that be DROVE away!) with a brand new Rover 25 Advantage!
When the draw was actually made by a member of the Electoral
Reform Society at the DaC AGM, just one of the three winners was present -
Peter Bond (L67). Peter has been a cab driver for 12 years - the
last nine having been on DaC.
"I was sitting with a friend and was half watching
the draw and half chatting when I heard the Lima call sign come out and
jokingly said that my odds were now 100 to one instead of 2000 to one!
Brian Rice was milking the situation and he seemed to take
forever in letting out the number, but when he then added the 67, I sort
of stood up, put my hand up to say I was there and then sat down again! I
just hadn't really taken it in. Then suddenly the whole hall burst out
into an elongated round of applause and it suddenly dawned on me that it
was me they were clapping and that I'd won the Rover 25! I suddenly felt
elated, especially when I had to go to the front and was congratulated by
Brian Rice. It really was a great AGM!"
When he got home and excitedly told his wife Helen to sit
down as he had some news, she immediately got up and told him that she
didn't believe him and carried on ironing!

Clive Horsman (F99)
The next name belonged to the bearded member of the three, Clive Horsman
(F99). He wasn't at the meeting but received a phone call from Brian Rice
the following afternoon.
"I was stunned," Clive told Call Sign, "but for
two reasons. Firstly it was just the shock of winning any competition
anywhere! But secondly and far more amazingly, earlier that day I had been
at a local car showroom looking at the Rover 25 - not in case I won it,
but because I was seriously considering buying it, as I never thought I'd
actually win one. In fact I had totally forgotten about the draw and I
have fancied the Rover 25 ever since it was released. I phoned my wife
Hazel at her office and after I'd convinced her that it was true, she told
me that it would be ideal for taking our four grandchildren out!"
Clive has been driving a taxi for thirty-one years of which
the last seven (plus two in the 1970's) have been on Dial-a-Cab.

William (Mark) Tipping (R53)
The third winner of the magnificent Rover 25 is William Tipping (R53), who
for as long as he can remember has been known as Mark - unfortunately he
can't remember why! Out of Mark's fifteen years as a licensed taxi driver,
all but the first 12 months have been spent on Dial-a-Cab.
He told Call Sign:
"I had a call out of the blue from someone claiming
to be Brian Rice at about 5.30 on the Monday after the meeting. I didn't
know what to think and thought perhaps he was going to ask why I wasn't at
the AGM! Then he told me that I had won the Rover 25 but I thought that it
was a wind-up and that it wasn't Brian but one of the guys I eat with a
Smithfield - the EC1 mob! Even when he put the phone down, I still wasn't
100% sure that it was legit - I am now though! My wife Kim was even harder
to convince that I had been!"
The car completed a pretty good Christmas incentive for Mark
who had already won £800 in the financial incentive to beat last year's
jobs total!
Well done to all three...
