Ron Colman is extremely pro-DaC and is never afraid to give his view to that effect, be it strong or mild. Neither does popularity bother him. That's why his views are...

STILL TRYING IT ON?
I'm on EI4C having earned my place from E14 by being in the queue for thirty minutes. Suddenly I'm on point and yet my terminal records me as number 2 to go...! I look around and I find that a young man four cabs behind is now number 1, having booked in too early. On seeing me come along and without any comment from me whatsoever, he said, "I'll book off and book on again." I said absolutely nothing, but obviously they are still at it!
Isn't it strange and damn ludicrous that a few silly drivers still try to beat the system? If only they stood back and put some thought into what they were about to attempt, they would realise that the personnel involved in the production of the system, mostly cab drivers themselves, have put many hours of perseverance, good planning, much thought, effort and long hours in conjunction with our Board and skilled technicians in producing the system that we have today. I am convinced that knowing human beings as we do and the incessant craving-to-fiddle mentality of the few, obstacles were technologically planned in to stop it. Yet they still attempt to cheat and steal from their working colleges - it's amazing!

NEW TERMINAL
Super! Super! is what our clients think of our new in-cab terminal which I'm sure are the same sentiments of us all. Okay, I am sure there will probably be some future upgrades or improvements, but for the time being let's get used to it, use it and earn from it.

COLMAN'S
MUSTARD

Congratulations to those responsible - absolutely superb.

TENDING OUR ACCOUNTS
Remember that in all walks of life, both privately and commercially, it is one thing earning it or obtaining it, but it's another thing to keep holding it. Applying this logic to our own trade, especially ourselves with the already quite substantial number of accounts that we have, we must always endeavour to look after them to the very best of our ability in order that we can hold and retain these clients for many years to come.    The future strength of our organisation will always rest on this.

A NO BICKERING YEAR
It really does get monotonous to hear moans and groans from the same people over the years. If they are so unhappy, why do they still linger around and stay with DaC? I believe it is because they realise that they are so much better-off with our company than

any other in it's field and yet they still try to rock-the-boat. Surely they should accept that our
Board of management MUST be doing and getting it right. Look at the figures, look at your earnings and respect what you see. Or could it be that they are power seeking? It has happened before and for many, it got them nowhere. I have always had a saying which is that we are all on the same side. So let us accept that the gentlemen we have voted in are doing an excellent job, we are satisfied - therefore leave well alone...

TOFF OF THE MONTH
My wife and I recently had the opportunity to see the wonderful West End show The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. Just prior to this we were in Oxford Street and needed to go a short distance, so we hailed a taxi which turned out to be from DaC. I was wearing my excellent DaC lightweight Rain  Jacket which, without him saying was noted by the driver. On route we chatted generally and on reaching our destination, the driver refused point blank to take my money. He pulled away quickly saying "good luck - have it on me".  His black TX1 registration number was -R267 RGX. To this driver I say thank you, sir - you are my toff of the month. You really should not have done it, but thanks a million, anyway...

BONNIE'S SMALL WORLD

They say the world is getting smaller and that is probably no understatement. The latest incident of that occurred just a few weeks back on Saturday February 17th.
Former Dial-a-Cab driver and now Chairman of the War Disabled charity, Steve Sanders picked up Mark and Barbara Mishkin, an American couple from Philadelphia, in his beautiful silver Asquith taxi and started chatting to them.
Up until 40 years ago, they had lived in a rented house in Tenterden Drive, Hendon while Mark was a very young physician at the Hospital for Nervous Diseases in London's Queen Square. They told Steve that their temporary home - which lasted several years - was right next door to a London taxi driver named Bonnie Martyn! As most drivers on Dial-a-Cab know,
Bonnie Martyn
Bonnie Martyn

Bonnie Martyn is this Society's founder Chairman and Tenterden Drive was the very place where this organisation was founded on November 12th 1953.
Steve Sanders phoned me, I phoned Bonnie Martyn - now almost 91 - and the former neighbours of 1960 had the opportunity to catch up with those 40 missing years! Small world? Absolutely tiny!
