DONNA MERRY:
DAC CALL TAKER TO WORLD CHAMPION?
Following Dial-a-Cab call taker Donna Merry's recent success at the
English shooting selection championships where she 'hit' 196 out of 200
clay birds, the lovely Donna has now been handed the ultimate honour - to
captain England's shooting team.
Amazingly, Donna has represented England for the last 6 years
and she is only just approaching her 21st birthday! She is a former holder
of many championships including the British, English, Scottish and Irish
titles and is considered by many experts to be the best lady shooting star
that the UK has ever produced. She is also considered to be as good as any
man shooter, but the time to find out is now approaching fast because
Donna may be a call taker for Dial-a-Cab, but she could also be on the
verge of the greatest shooting title of all - 2001 World Champion!
At the beginning of October in San Antonio, Texas, the
greatest shooters in the world will be gathering to decide just who is the
best and according to the experts, Donna would be the favourite to land
the prestigious title - if she goes. She has been offered sponsorship to
cover her flight and accommodation in the USA, but Donna will not travel
without her coach Allan and just like a certain Arsenal player, Allan
doesn't like flying.
John Wells (K68), Dial-a-Cab dispatcher and another expert
shooter who will be competing at the Championships in Texas, told Call
Sign that in his view Donna is the best shooter in the world and he
wouldn't be at all surprised to see her pick up a world title if she goes:
"She is far and away the best the UK has and I don't
know of anyone, anywhere, who has a chance of beating her - and that
includes me! Either way, if she goes over there, we'll certainly smack a
few backsides along the way! The rest of the world will know they've been
in a fight by the time the championships are over..."
Sky Sports and Eurosport UK will be covering the action on
UK television (for Internet readers, ESPN will be covering it outside of
Europe). |
STOP PRESS
DIAL-A-CAB / MANN & OVERTON LINK-UP
As Call Sign was going to press, news had just filtered through of a
new link between Dial-a-Cab and main LTI agent Mann & Overton in
Holloway Road.
DaC will be fitting two of the new-type DaC terminals onto
two almost new M&O TX1 taxis (fitted with DaC logos). When a DaC
driver takes his taxi into M&O for a service or overhaul (usually
completed in about four days), provided he/she gives notice, he/she will
then be able to carry on working on a DaC radio taxi rather than have to
trawl the streets in a non-radio cab. The scheme will, of course, have to
operate on a first come - first served basis.
Both Tom Whitbread for Dial-a-Cab and Mike Saunders for
M&O expressed delight at how smoothly the co-operation between the two
companies had gone. The scheme should be starting almost immediately...
You can contact Mann & Overton on 020 7700 0888.
