Lee Morland (r) saved a last minute penalty Dial-a-Cab's sensational footballers started the new season in the same
scintillating manner as they had finished the old season. Following last
year's second place in the league just behind CWB - even though we were
defeated only twice all season - Dial-a-Cab qualified for the Champions
League Cup, which consisted of the top two teams of all four leagues. |

where they
finished undefeated. But that record fell against mighty DaC who took the match 5-4 in a thrilling, topsy-turvy encounter. In the semi-final, we had to face the team who had pipped us to the league championship last season after taking the title without losing a match, CWB. This time the smell of revenge was in the air and Dial-a-Cab made no mistake, running out winners by 8-4. And so to the Champions Cup Final and Kleinwort Rangers. Bearing in mind that Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein have returned to Dial-a-Cab as clients, our boys had to be on their top form as well as being the ultimate diplomats! Kleinwort quickly took the lead |
and within minutes had doubled the lead to 2-0. Then DaC started to
push the ball around and within nine incredible minutes, had scored four
times! But Kleinwort were pressing hard and their centre forward scored an
individual goal of great skill bringing the game back to 4-3 and putting
the result into the balance. Then with little time left, Kleinwort were awarded a disputed penalty. The suspense was electric. DaC's experienced goalkeeper/dispatcher Lee Morland prowled the line as the Kleinwort captain stepped up to take the penalty. Lee guessed right, making the save and giving Dial-a-Cab the Champions Cup for 2001. Well done lads... |

DAC-SPONSORED CARSHALTON

Carshalton Athletic Under 13
football team - whose track-suit tops are sponsored by Dial-a-Cab in the
form of our small rain jackets - have shocked the junior football world by
winning the prestigious Surrey County Cup (U13) and defeating hot
favourites Meadow Sports in the Final. Meadow Sports had already taken the League Championship and League Cup and were fully expected to complete the season's silverware haul by adding the Surrey County cup to their collection. But they hadn't reckoned on the fighting spirit of Carshalton Athletic - and the magic properties of the DaC rain jackets! Carshalton's Director of Football - although he refers to himself as the team's Football Representative - Mick Woods (G9), told Call Sign that he and all the parents (his own son Tom was also in the team) were very proud of the team and that their spirited performance and never-say-die attitude had won the cup for them. As the half-time whistle blew, it seemed certain that Meadow Sports would take the match in a stroll having scored two excellent goals and left Carshalton bemused with their skilful brand of football. But following some gentle 'encouragement' in their small ear holes before trooping out for the second half, Carshalton suddenly started to show |

ball around much better, Carshalton suddenly started to pin Meadow Sports
back into their own half. |
