The Dial-a-Cab Call Centre was certainly a hive of activity just before the Christmas holidays. In addition to being busy, the fourth floor staff had just been given their share of the Xmas staff fund money that had been kindly donated by drivers - for which they send their thanks.

In addition, they were then given a sizeable bonus by the company for their hard work in helping DaC to achieve yet another record busting year.
Then came the icing on the cake; A group of ten call takers had been told by Carol Chart, their lottery organiser, that they had achieved five numbers in the draw and had won a total of £3236 - £323.60 each! The girls - who have been doing the lottery for some time - were delighted but were unanimous in saying that it wouldn't change their lives too much!
"But" as Carol told Call Sign, "you can never have too much money at Christmas!"
Amazingly just the previous week, the Call Centre's Bradley MacDonald - last year's

CALL CENTRE GIRLS WIN THE LOTTERY!

Dial-a-Cab Employee of the Year - also got five lottery numbers and scooped over £2000 by himself!
The biggest win in the London cab trade so far as the lottery is concerned, happened several years ago when a group of  drivers operated a syndicate from the Temple Shelter which  scooped the
jackpot. Several of the drivers were on DaC, but the multi-million pound win was tarnished when it turned out that one of the drivers had entered the same numbers on his own without telling any of the others. Consequently, he scooped a much larger share than anyone else causing some bad feeling at the time.

RUSSELL POLUCK AWARDED MBE

 Russell Poluck

The Queen's New Year's Honours list held a special significance for Dial-a-Cab driver Russell Poluck (T55) when he was awarded

the MBE for his sterling work with the Taxi Driver of the Year Charity. Russell is just as well known for his charity work with the War Disabled.
At the time of the announcement Russell and his wife Barbara were holidaying in the USA, so Call Sign spoke to brother Gordon (R34) who told us:
"The whole family are proud of Gordon. No one deserves this award more than him, but I'm sure he would be the first to say that Barbara has always been there to help."
Russell joins a select few on Dial-a-Cab who have been awarded honours by the Queen including Gerry Dunn (S84) and Bill Tyzack (C6). Former Board member Harry Joel was also awarded the MBE some years back.
Congratulations Russell...
