KUPKAKE TAKES A SMELL AT THE KIPPER SEASON

Before The Crucifixion

The Thoughts of
Paul Tully (Y40)

Paul Tully after winning a poetry competition in October 1999

It is difficult to understand
The futile spitefulness of man
It is difficult to comprehend
Why people dig dirt from way back when.

It often seems to be a fact
That he who complains most about some wrongdoer
Is himself usually worse
Or at best no truer.

I have never liked bullies or rudeness
And I abhor pig-ignorance
I dislike intensely being spoken down to
And I somewhat dislike arrogance.

We should all applaud politeness
And not because it's free
I frown upon the egotist,
Because he does not see.

The egotist is blinded
By his own self importance
His spirit is not kindred
And is without reverence.

Good honest people
Can be caught up in events
That are spiteful and hurtful
They become victims without circumvent.

It is wrong to draw assumption
When not all the facts are known
But takes only a little gumption
To stand up to trouble making crones.

To the editors of magazines
Newspapers and the like
Who stand up to these people
Whose only attribute is spite.

I say 'well done'
But with damage now done
And one life aimed in another direction
I make a plea to the spiteful ones.

Think of the consequences
BEFORE THE CRUCIFIXION...

Every year in the weeks following the harvesting, thousands of Licensed London Taxicabs congregate in packs around the Capital. This phenomenon, colloquially referred to as KIPPER SEASON, is not exclusive to London but is most evident in the capital.
Many of these drivers or LTD's actually reside in the outer reaches of London, often in close proximity to each other and
migrate daily in their forage for food. Many will have covered 120 miles in a single day on this quest. There is no set time pattern to this movement; some LTD's will rise before the sun whilst others prefer to wait until the evening darkness before they emerge from their suburban homes.
Invariably, in this search for food or fares, many LTD's will enter the Oxford Street Valley where the chance of a heavily laden shopper needing transportation can be had. Other likely spots for hunting are the railway termini, conveniently sited at all compass points.
Among the LTD's there is no room for sentimentality at this time of year. Should a taxi break down, it will be totally ignored by LTD's as they continue to hunt. These are lean times indeed and it's a kill-or-be-killed struggle for survival. Only the clever and strong actually manage to bring home enough to feed their broods.
There is much tribalism involved with almost 6000 of the 23000 LTD's belonging to the Radio

Assisted Companies - known as circuits. There are still hundreds of Circuit drivers who recall times gone by when the little work that was available was dispatched by voice. Many a time, as many as 12 drivers would bid for a ride, each one claiming to be closer to the pick-up point.
These squabbles would be a daily occurrence with close friendships being placed in jeopardy and drivers being expelled from the tribe for ever.
The non-radio LTD's will just feed sparingly and use their stores of food until such time comes when there is an abundance for all. Analyses of research into the kipper season phenomenon has revealed that the Radio LTD's recover quicker then their non-radio fellows, but they must pay for the privilege in the form of subscriptions to their respected circuits.
Soon the fair weather returns and all LTD's are engaged in the pursuit of hunter gathering until the next winter creeps in and the cycle is repeated.
Go well on your journey.......

LTI BRINGS SUMMER SUN TO TEST DRIVE WINNERS

London Taxis International has announced the winners of its hugely successful £5000 Thomas Cook Vouchers Prize Draw.

The draw, which was open to all licensed drivers who took a test drive in a TX1 in September, attracted a high level of interest across the country.
Fiona Morris, the Marketing Communications Controller for LTI told Call Sign:
"Making available £500 worth of vouchers at all our Main Dealers meant that anyone test driving a TX1 stood a good chance of winning. I am delighted that we have given the winning drivers the opportunity to go abroad or upgrade their holiday plans."

M&O's London winner was Michael Fletcher who is a driver with ComCab. He was naturally thrilled at winning the Thomas Cook vouchers.
His original plan was to go on a self-catering holiday to Tenerife at Easter, but the voucher win from his M&O test run has meant that he can now upgrade to a Thomas Cook all-inclusive deal.
In all, the very successful promotion produced nine delighted winners from around the country.
