Unlike their big
brothers in the Premiership, the teams in the 5-a-side City Lunchtime
League only had enough time to change outfits in between the ending of the
old season and the beginning of the new. Mind you, DaC did have the small
matter of winning the Champions Cup during the supposed end of season
break! In a season where DaC hope to go one better than last and win the championship, events started with a whimper as our first two opponents - no doubt still under the weather from their holiday jaunts - failed to raise a team giving Dial-a-Cab two 5 - 0 wins and sending us to the top of the league without anyone even putting on a pair of shorts! The match on the 29th May was against Kaiser Chiefs who were sitting in 6th place in the table. With our stalwart goalkeeper Lee Moreland on holiday, stand-in Billy Rice was put under immediate pressure by the opposition, conceding a goal early on to put us on the back foot; however, the situation was remedied when Trevor Smith |

Joe Brazil's late goal against the the Kaiser Chiefs gave us the win showed that his goal scoring touch hadn't deserted him from last
season. |
The next match against SMI saw DaC put out almost a reserve
team through injuries and unavailability. We hung on to our unbeaten
record - but only just, scraping a 5 - 5 draw even with the assistance of
our new player, Russ Hall (G40), a former pro with several clubs. The game on Friday 13th July proved to be unlucky for our opponents BCW, who came up against the Smith factor - that's two goals for Trevor and one for son Joshua. A brace from Paul Richards and one from newcomer Warren Barbieri (K19) sealed the 7 - 3 win that kept us at the top of the league. Helping to keep us at the top was the match on July 20th against Kleinwort Rangers who we trounced by 7 - 3. There was yet another hat trick for our devastating goal machine Trevor Smith with yet another brace each for Warren Barbieri and Paul Richards. |

Dial-a-Cab driver Paul Parkinson (W8) is the very successful manager of Maidstone-based under 10's football team Bower Athletic. The team - including Paul's son - recently entered the prestigious Rusthall (Tunbridge Wells) six-a-side tournament, which had an entry of over 150 teams from all over the south of England. Even the local press turned up for the finals with Bower playing in their very smart DaC sponsored shirts. |
Bower Athletic got to the under-10's final by defeating teams from St.
Leonards and Tonbridge. Then in the final itself, although only winning by
a narrow 1-0 margin against local rivals Barming, they played well enough
to stop Paul growing old too quickly before the team's eyes! The teams
football shirts have been sponsored by Dial-a-Cab for the last two
seasons. Congratulations to the team from everyone at DaC... |
