COMPUTER CHINCHAT

Regular readers of my column will know that I've written about Napster quite a few times previously. Now once again Napster has hit the headlines with an out-of-court offer to the music moguls of $750 million; and they said NO!
Napster, http://www.napster.com were intending to introduce a subscription fee of around £3 per month for members to download music, this to me sounded like an excellent proposition that I would have certainly joined. But now the music moguls have rejected the offer and I get an impression of greed being the basis of their decision. Many people I know who have downloaded music, then go out and purchase the CD, I've done this myself regarding recent releases, but what about my large collection of vinyl?
I've got a large selection of late 70s early 80's music that is not available on CD yet. Many on the 'Net have dedicated time and effort in ripping these records to MP3 format, I then search for each record and once I've found a match with the required quality, I download it. I've already paid the music moguls once for the record, so why should I have to pay again? Answers on a postcard please, and if someone's got The Funkmasters 'It's Over' and you've the time, please rip it for me...!

Chatting On-line and Politics
When you log on to the Internet, wouldn't it be nice to know that your friends and family are online too and that you can chat to them one-to-one? A recent tool I've been using is Yahoo's Messenger, available for download at: http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com/  The installation is painless so long as you download it from the URL I've provided and not the .com version. I stupidly visited the .com site and was cursing it because it wouldn't accept my postcode, then I realised my error; what a plonker!
Once you've installed the application, you invite your friends and family to join your friends' list, they accept the invitation and do likewise to you. When

you connect to the Net Yahoo messenger (as long as it's started, or set-up to start on boot-up) it will show who's connected and available to chat, and that's all there is to it. Easy to use chat application, and it's free...
Now politics! It's that time again when the current serving government try to convince us that they're doing a good job, whether we believe them or not is shown by how we vote in the general election. The bets are that it will occur mid-year, especially since the budget is proving to be a
success.
Can we believe all the hype? Well at least we can now visit their websites to help us decide: Labour: http://www.labour.org.uk/, Conservatives: http://www.conservatives.com/ and Lib Dems: http://www.libdems.org.uk/. I've not included any of the others as I didn't have the time to search for their sites.

Knowledge Site
I've recently been contacted by three non-DaC drivers asking what's the best course they can do in IT as they can't see a future in our trade any more. Obviously, impending minicab legislation is now a hard fact that we all have to face up to and I just hope that it doesn't turn into a flood of drivers trying to leave the best cab industry in the world...
My knowledge site has broken new ground by sending the recently called appearances at the Public Carriage Office by email. How does it work? To qualify for the free service, members have to input theirs or others appearance details onto the http://www.ontheknowledge.co.uk website. Subscribers to the free service receive the points by email as an HTML page, saving the time and money of subscribing to traditional paper and post methods. Will it be a success? Only time will tell, but it should hopefully make life that little bit easier for knowledge boys and girls.

C'ya next month... Vince Chin

Zara  TEENWORLD

Call Sign's youngest correspondent, 17-year-old Zara Gee with her views on a young world...

Hey everyone! How's it going...? I'm doing dandy...
Can you believe it's already April - like wow, how fast has the year gone! Well here's a teenworld fact for ya; those who plan going on holiday this year get ready for it now, because most of the population is taking off on holiday in exactly 17 weeks. This to get sunkissed bodies while ending up looking like red paint has been thrown over them, a nose that sheds skin like a snake and freckles that look worse than a cheetah! Yeah...holiday time! Wow!
Last month at the Brits, hats off to Geri Halliwell. Doesn't she look stunning! But, is the Geri and Robbie thing on...or off? If not now, then they will gradually fall in love like a typical chick flick! Mind you, the divorce will probably be messy...!
A question I may ask you, why...no, no...how did a1 get best newcomer? I mean...hello!...a1? Also, while on the subject of celebs, is it just me who has noticed the 'I'll get a piece of material as big as a hamster and see what kind of dress I can make out of it' look? This could also be the start of a major worry for Christina Aguilera, who is looking dangerously thin.
Who does it for you? Christina or Britney? I personally think that Britney is prettier and can dance better, but whoa! Christina can sing better - and sings live!

Teen TV
Swiftly moving on to television, what a hell of a time! The Brits, Crossroads (new and improved!) but the

main thing was who shot Phil? Well by the time this is printed, you would have found out that Steve Owen hired a hitman to shoot Phil, but somehow another character got to pull the trigger first! Here are the options:
Lisa: Could she see through her frowned one eyebrow long enough to shoot him?
Steve: Erm, hello... of course it could have been him, Phil "had sexual relations with that woman!"
Dan: Oh evil Dan looks as though he has the hard nut approach, but could it be that hard?
Ian: Well if Ian didn't pull the trigger he might just have killed Phil with the strong smell of fish and chip from his chippy!
Mark: Well from nowhere this 'strong' image has grown inside Mark; did he push Nick off the bridge or did he fall? Did he shoot Phil Mitchell?
I personally dislike Mark, I mean he always has the wise words to say and is so boring and is only shown in times of need. Please Mark, leave the square! I am begging you, leave the limelight to the fabulous Jim Braning; we love you and so does Dot!
Now has anyone ever seen the program 'The Tribe?' It is shown on Channel 5 and I keep asking myself if they are American trying to be Australian, or Australian trying to be American? Can you mail me and tell me your opinion; someone must know!
There's just enough time to tell you that the Spice Girls are officially no more thanks to Mel C!
Right, I'm off but keep your emails flooding in! I have such fun reading about you!
What's your opinion? Email and tell me .... Hunny71345@aol.com
