I LOVE YOU (AS
IN THE VIRUS!)
As the rest of the world ground to a halt on Thursday May 4th due to the
widely publicised 'Lovebug' virus, Dial-a-Cab's technical resources ran
without a hitch.
The mail was received in the building but did not pose
any threat due in no small part to the vigilance of the IT department and
in particular, Theresa Spears.
Theresa was alerted early in the day to the presence of the
virus and made sure all staff were aware of the problem. As soon as our
anti-virus software providers published an update for the bug, the fix was
rapidly deployed to all PC's in the building.
If you missed the publicity, the virus was sent as an
attachment titled 'I Love You'. If the unsuspecting recipient opened the
attachment, the mail was then automatically forwarded to all mail
addresses in the recipients address book, while the bug was busy
overwriting certain files on the hard drive of the PC.
This obviously caused major problems, as
|
 corporate
employees with large global address books unwittingly forwarded the
message infinite times, swamping and crashing company mail servers. Out of
the many that suffered, including the Houses of Parliament and AT & T,
as usual Dial-a-Cab stayed ahead of the rest.
