On Thursday 11th May, Bob Woodford dragged his still-weary body to the offices of Dial-a-Cab at Brunswick House to collect the cheque from Brian Rice that his amazing Sahara Desert run in Morocco had been all about. Wearing the tee shirt that he wore |

in the 129-degree desert sun for one last time before framing it,
Bob accepted a cheque for £1314.14 on behalf of Motor Neurone Disease
from his main sponsors, Dial-a-Cab and from the generous readers of
Call Sign Magazine.
"I am just so grateful to everyone who had enough faith to sponsor me," said Bob. "It was Paul Bishop's tragic death that bought home how awful Motor Neurone is. This muscle wasting illness spread through Paul's body so quickly, I don't think that I can ever forget it. |
One minute Paul was just another Dial-a-Cab driver who ran
marathons for charity, the next he had died. I hope this has also
helped to keep his memory alive. He was a good friend to many,
including myself." As for the run itself, did Bob have any regrets? "No none at all, it was the most difficult thing I have ever done but it kindled a spirit of friendship amongst the competitors that will stay with me for a long time! At one low point I remember being under the hot sun, separated from everyone else, parched dry and |
wondering what the hell I was doing there! But I wouldn't
have missed it for anything." And any final words? "Yes" said Bob with a twinkle in his eye, "I've got two - never again!" One final heart-warming surprise for Bob happened on the way out of the building. DaC driver Jimmy Reid (A74) spotted Bob and stuffed a £10 note into his hand. "Put it into the pot" said Jimmy. "That's how it's been all along" said Bob, "thanks again to everyone who donated, but thanks to Call Sign for letting everyone know about it..." |
Nuala Glavin-Davis has been the DaC Driver's Services Assistant
Administrator for seven years being second-in-command to Helen
Corkerry. In fact Nuala has only ever been with Driver's Services during her whole period with the company other than a short period in the Call Centre. She arrived as a Temp for a holidaying receptionist and just never left! Until now, that is... Nuala and hubby Geoff have now signed on to do the Knowledge and that means that Nuala is saying goodbye. "I hope that I managed to say goodbye to most of the drivers who I know personally" Nuala told Call Sign, "but if I missed anyone, accept my apologies and |

take this as a goodbye for now. I hope to be back
one day, but this time as a driver..." |
