JRTA - WHO TAKES OVER FROM AUBREY?
When Aubrey Siteman retired from Dial-a-Cab, it
also left a vacancy in the Joint Radio Taxicab Association's ranks as
Aubrey was the longest serving Chairman in the history of JRTA.
At a meeting on November 24th, it was agreed
unanimously that a new system of revolving Chairmen would be used. Under
the new system, Computer Cab's Geof Kaley was confirmed as the first
Chairman for the year 2000. He will be followed in 2001 by Radio Taxis
Geoffrey Riesel, Brian Rice follows in 2002 and Data Cab's Bernie Connor
will have his turn in 2003.
Meanwhile, Geoffrey Riesel will continue as JRTA Secretary
for another year, while Brian Rice will be taking over from Tony Lock as
Treasurer, Mr Lock having held the position for several years. All
offices will now operate under the new revolving system.
The organisations that make up JRTA are: Dial-a-Cab,
Computer Cab, Radio Taxis, Data Cab and Harrow Radio Taxis. Between them
they represent some 7000 drivers on radio. |

Metrocab Expands As London General Closes It's Doors
Metrocab (UK) Ltd has announced a major expansion
programme for it's main London dealership sites.
The company will be vacating it's London General site
before the New Year when the current lease expires. Increased rental
costs have influenced this decision, but Metrocab UK has decided to
focus attention on it's dealership at Hooper Metrocab in Kilburn and
it's newly launched Nelson Crouch dealership in Hackney.
The savings which will result from the move from London
General will be directed to site improvements at both Kilburn and
Hackney.
Stephen Ferris, Sales & Marketing Manager for Metrocab
(UK) explained to Call Sign:
"The move out of London General is the end of an
era for the London General site which has been well known to the taxi
trade for many years."
Mr Ferris continued: "We are sad to be leaving but
the move makes sound economic and commercial sense." |
And
Where's Our Christmas Card?
While we had the ear of Metrocab UK, we took the opportunity
of asking the company's Managing Director Mike Thurlow where Call Sign's
Christmas card had gone! Were they short of a few bob?
Mr Thurlow explained that Metrocab UK had joined the growing number of
caring companies who had decided to donate their budget for Christmas
Cards to charity.
Metrocab UK normally send out more than 1000 cards each Christmas and
senior management decided that the ever increasing cost of the cards and
postage stamps could be put to much better use if donated to a
worthwhile charity. The preferred charity this year was The British
Heart Foundation.
Mike Thurlow went on to tell Call Sign: "I hope our suppliers and
customers - and yes, that includes Call Sign! - will understand and
support our reasoning behind this initiative. We simply felt that the
money could be better spent by a worthwhile cause. But we would like to
take this opportunity to wish all our customers, suppliers and indeed
everybody associated with Metrocab, a belated very Merry Christmas and a
very Happy New Year.
"The new Millennium is obviously a milestone event for
us all and we sincerely wish happiness and good fortune in the future to
all our friends..." |
